Marisa McCarthy, Senior Political Director of Local, State, and National Development
Marisa is a fifth generation San Franciscan with experience in political communications, strategic planning, and campaign management.
Marisa has worked for a wide range of elected leaders in Washington D.C. and California, including Vice President Kamala Harris, Senator Alex Padilla, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, Congresswoman Jackie Speier, and Mayor London Breed.
In 2018, Marisa joined a Congressional campaign as a field organizer in rural Virginia for Democratic nominee Vangie Williams. There she managed a large network of volunteers and organized and led campaign events.
Post-midterm election, Marisa began working in the United States Senate. For three years, she worked for then-Senator Kamala Harris and Senator Alex Padilla. Marisa started off as a Staff Assistant and worked her way up to Deputy Press Secretary over the course of her time in the Senate. In both offices, Marisa led the communications teams in writing press releases, managing social media accounts, and pitching reporters on various letters and legislation. She did all this during pivotal moments in our country’s history, including impeachment, Supreme Court nomination hearings, the COVID-19 pandemic, and police reform protests.
In August 2021, Marisa moved back home to San Francisco for graduate school. While in school, Marisa worked on various local San Francisco campaigns and initiatives before joining SGR Consulting.
Marisa received her bachelor’s in Political Science and History from Loyola Marymount University and her master’s in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco. At Loyola Marymount, Marisa had various internships in both the United States House of Representatives and Senate, where she began her career in politics.
